Here for your consideration is a fine Australian Andamooka Matrix Opal set in sterling silver. This pretty oval shaped cabochon exhibits glittery pinfire opalescent, red, aqua, green and purple dichroisms. The patterns in this stone are beautifully flashy and very interesting to play with under light. 

This type of opal is processed by slow cooking it in sugar with acid to turn it black. It is then sealed to cover rough areas - some tiny natural holes are present. Requires occasionaly hydration of mineral oil.
